Why Diana wore a necklace as headband

During a 1985 royal tour of Australia, Princess Diana got a sunburn that prevented her from wearing a gifted emerald and diamond necklace. Her hairstylist, Richard Dalton, improvised by fashioning the necklace into a headband using knicker elastic. The look was a sensation, becoming Dalton's "first big statement" as Diana's stylist.
